Chicago Lately + Weekend Links
After January and February dragged on and on and ooonnnnnn, March just whizzed right on by. It’s still chilly, but the days are longer and there have been more blue skies, and with the changes we’ve been busy the past few weekends! For those of you in or visiting Chicago, here’s what we’ve been up to lately (plus some links from the around the web):
^^Glazed and Infused donuts (cinnamon toast crunch topping? Yes please!)
^^Not specific to Chicago, we made this for dinner last week and I’m kind of obsessed. It is what I like to call a mash-up (i.e. what do I have around that I can make a meal of?), and it was awesome, if I do say so myself! Homemade hash browns (grated red potatoes cooked in the iron skillet with olive oil) topped with sautéed kale, mushrooms and leftover quinoa patty mix, topped with a runny egg and balsamic.
^^One of my best girl friends was in town from LA last week and met up with my parents and I for brunch at Perennial Virant (love that place). After, she and I walked around and eventually ended up at Eataly to share a meat and cheese plate and catch up. Jordan and I were paired to live together (with 6 other awesome gals!) when we studied abroad in Florence, and it couldn’t have been a better match.
^^For my brother’s birthday, we went to Lincoln Karaoke and it.was.amazing. It feels like a college house party kind of when you walk in, but each group gets their own room, a couple mics and tambourines, and let’s just say 3 hours goes by in a flash. Also, earlier that day I walked around Bucktown with my mom and we had a bite at Native Foods Cafe – yum!
We had dinner at Green Street Smoked Meats, a fairly new spot in the West Loop by the same folks that do Au Cheval, Maude’s, Gilt and the like, so, you know, yum.
To top off your weekend, here are a few links not to be missed!
